Scott tartans - information sources

According to Edinburgh University Library, "A great handicap that exists for researchers in this field is that - believe it or not - there is no statutory or official register of tartans in Scotland, nor formal agency available to help."

However, the library website does go on to list some very useful sources of information, including:

The Scottish Tartans Authority; and, the Tartan Finder.

P.S. Don't miss the Free Kilts & Tartan e-book available from this site:

The Scott family Webring

It's been a while since I looked at this - but I'm pleased to read that:

'This ring [aims] to bring together all the people who are looking for other people with the surname of SCOTT. And for those looking for ancestors with the surname of SCOTT. "
