Consultation on the Creation of A Register of Tartans

According to a document on the Scottish Parliament website:

'Jamie McGrigor, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Highlands & Islands, is considering introducing a Bill in the Scottish Parliament to create a central Register of Tartan designs. The initiative for a Register was raised with Jamie McGrigor and is supported by existing Registers, Retailers, Weavers, Wholesalers and Exporters, Museums and Archives, The Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs and the Court of the Lord Lyon.'

Surprisingly, perhaps, no such register currently exists. Hence some difficulties in authenticating Scott (and other family) tartans!

The consultation paper gives some information about the proposal and [apparently] seeks your views on it.

Pour ceux qui parlent francais

Le clan Scott en Nouvelle-France :

Sorry I missed this comment a while ago! Republishing it here and now:

"Good day. I have made this website for the Scotts who lived in Quebec, in Canada, which was the New-France (Nouvelle-France) in the XVIIth century. My ancestor came from Scotland and we are French speaking peoples. All the websites known on the clan are only in English. So, they would learn about this fabulous clan and this marvellous land: Scotland. And, in a certain way, in this language it recalls the "Auld Alliance" between Scottish and French friends. Scotts visiting Scotland

We've been asked to help visiting Scotts with various things - like tickets to the Edinburgh Festival, Tattoo etc. - but unfortunately we just don't have the resources to do this. Some useful sites I've identified that might help are:

I hope this helps. We'd love to be able to do more for fellow Scotts. Donations are always as welcome as visitors! :

Many thanks.
